Our Story
More Than a Consultant.
More Than a Coach.
People by Design was born from one simple belief: that people are not problems to be solved - they're puzzles waiting to be understood.
The Shift
Melissa spent most of her career inside organizations, building teams, developing leaders, and transforming cultures. She loved the work. The same truth kept surfacing anyway: the best strategies in the world do not matter if people do not feel seen, supported, and valued.
That realization, and the personal losses that deepened it, led her to build something different. A firm that puts people first as a practice rather than as a tagline.
Melissa's Journey
For over 20 years, I've guided people and teams to a stronger footing in their careers, workplaces, and lives.
I bring an M.S. in Human Resource Management from LSU, a Professional in Human Resource Management Certificate from Villanova, and expertise in Emotional Intelligence through the Six Seconds model. I hold the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) credential, along with the Brain Profile Certification (BPC) and Emotional Intelligence Assessor Certification (EQAC). I am also a member of the American Business Women's Association, nationally and through the La Capitale chapter.
I've partnered with executives and frontline staff, coached leaders and parents, and spoken coast to coast. A background in musical theatre taught me that the best connections happen when people feel something real. Every workshop, keynote, and coaching session I lead carries that energy: interactive, grounded, deeply human.
"People crave connection, growth, and belonging. That's why I founded People by Design."
Why we look for the piece that is out of position
We work as connectors. That means we are not hunting for a missing piece. We are looking for the one that has slipped out of position: a team that stopped talking across levels, a policy that made sense two reorganizations ago, a manager carrying something that was never theirs. Put that piece back in relation to everything around it and the picture resolves. You stop paying to manage a symptom and start working on what sits under it.
The other half is timing. From inside a hard stretch, it reads as unclear. Looked back on later, the same stretch is legible: you can see what it cost, what it taught your people, and what it set up. Leaders do not get to wait years for that view, and the decision is in front of them now.
So we read your organization the way you would read it later, and we hand you what it means while you can still act on it.
Our Approach
Every engagement starts with listening and ends with action. Here's how we work.
Listen First
Before we build anything, we listen. We learn your story, your challenges, and what success looks like for you. No assumptions, no cookie-cutter frameworks.
Design with You
We co-create solutions that fit your reality - not a generic template. Whether it's a coaching plan, a workshop series, or a culture strategy, it's built around you.
Measure What Matters
Growth isn't just a feeling - it's observable. We help you track progress, celebrate wins, and adjust course when needed. Real results for real people.
Signature Framework
The People by Design Model
The People by Design model places well-being at the center, while igniting culture through practical leadership habits and transforming lives.
Well-being
Holistic health at the center of every engagement.
Collaboration as the Engine
We achieve more together - across generations, roles, and life circumstances.
Abundance Mindset
Infinite possibilities for growth at every age and stage.
Collective Success
When every piece fits, the whole picture emerges.
The Five-Step Process
Assess
Listen and clarify what's really happening.
Align
Set shared priorities and define what success looks like.
Enable
Equip leaders, managers, and teams with practical tools.
Practice
Build small, consistent leadership habits into daily work.
Measure
Use pulse data and stories to track progress and adjust.
How the framework becomes something you can book
Every Piece Matters is what a group experiences. The Masterpiece Framework is how we build it.
The five steps are not a diagram we show you and then set aside. Assess is the intake before a session, where we find out what the real problem is and what has already been tried. Align is choosing what runs, in what order, and under what name. Enable is the session itself. Practice is what your group keeps afterwards. Measure is your own read on whether the behavior changed.
Run that way, the method produces two things you can actually book: a signature keynote written for the room it is delivered into, and a team workshop assembled from a modular toolkit and delivered under a name built for your organization.
What We Value
Empathy
We lead with understanding.
Belonging
Everyone has a place here.
Authenticity
Real over polished, always.
Courage
Growth requires bravery.
Joy
Purpose feels good.
Where It All Began
People by Design was born from love and loss.
In a single year, I said goodbye to both of my parents. My dad, whose morning phone calls on my drive to work were as steady as sunrise. My mom, who — even while fighting her own battle with cancer — chose to stop fighting and simply sit and love.
Their lives taught me that people are more important than possessions, that time is more precious than titles, and that love and presence matter more than any resume line.
People by Design carries their legacy forward. Every conversation about culture, every coaching session about showing up with courage, every workshop about belonging — it all traces back to what they showed me.
This work exists because they lived. And because they lived, I learned what it means to design life around what truly matters.
Thank you, Mom and Dad. Every piece of this is yours.
